Now for my first official beauty related post! I think a good start is what I've been loving the past month in the beauty department. I think I'll do a seperate post for some other favorites - movies, apps, books, human, whatever. Until then here's some info on what I reached for the most in August. It's got a little bit of skincare, makeup and hair.

First Aid Beauty Skin Rescue Deep Cleanser - Sephora ($24) // Nothing like having a 10 year old waste a bottle of your current skin cleaner to make you go out and try something new, right? Yep. That's what happened here. I had heard good things about FAB before, but I've never gotten a chance to really try out there line so when the opportunity presented itself, I went for it. For my first foray into their line, I feel like I'm going to deliver a serious addiction to them. This gel-based cleanser is perfect for my skin which can be a little tricky. I've noticed a more balanced complexion since I started using this. I will say that smell is a slight turn off. It's very medicinal, but it doesn't linger after it's all washed off.

IT Cosmetics Tightline Full Length Black Mascara Primer - Ulta ($24) & Loreal Voluminous Miss Manga - Ulta ($7.99) // This mascara combo has been giving me everything I want out of eyelashes all month. I use to think that mascara primer was just extremely silly. I never got into those two-step systems that brand sell, but with this primer from IT Cosmetics...I'm a believer! The secret here is the micro brush. You can really get close to the root of your lashes with it. Pairing it with a volumizing mascara gives your eyes just the perfect POP. Miss Manga is my definite go to right now. COME ON! It's name is Miss MANGA. It had "Amanda buy me written all over." I know quite a few people don't care for how flexible the wand is on the end, but I find if you have a steady hand, the wand will barely move while your actually applying the mascara.

Eyeko Alexa Chung Lash Enhancing Eye Do Eyeliner - Sephora ($19) // Here's where I admit something I'm super bad at in the makeup department: eyeliner. As much as I practice, I'm never really satisfied with my skill set there. Lucky for me, liquid eyeliner pens make me feel a little, tiny bit better when I attempt it. Truth be told, I'm more likely to just skip the eyeliner most days, but this has had be applying more and more this month. I love the formulation, and it doesn't budge throughout the day. It's definite recommendation for all the liner noobs out there that need a little extra help.

IT Cosmetics Bye Bye Redness Correcting Creme - Ulta ($32) // My skin is definitely redness prone, and I often struggle with foundation and concealer to get it correctly covered. I've actually had this for a few months, and it's been my little miracle jar. A little goes a very long way with this which makes the price point sting a little less. You won't got through this tiny jar quickly unless you really want to pack it - which I wouldn't recommend. I layer it under my foundation, and it balances everything out which means having to pack on less foundation and concealer in the long run.

BECCA Shimmering Skin Perfector - Sephora/Ulta ($41) // Another pricey item where a little goes a very long way. When my Ulta started stocking BECCA products, I immediately snatched this up to try. I love having a dewy finish to my skin over a matte finish. I started mixing a small pump of this into my foundation before applying it, and it achieves the perfect glowing finish to my skin. You can also use it as a highlighter, but I haven't tried that just yet. The color I got in this is Opal, and I love it. It adds just a little bit of sun-kissed color for me.

Rusk Wired Flexible Styling Creme - Ulta ($14) // In July, I took a major plunge - or should I say cut? That's right.  I chopped off my hair in a pixie cut which was totally one of the best decisions ever, but now with short hair that means new hair products. Short hair is definitely unrulier than long hair. This is my cure for in the mornings when I can wake up looking like a bit of a chicken. It calms down any crazy fly aways with just the right amount of hold. If you've got short hair, I would definitely think about putting this into your hair care routine.

So there we go, all my August beauty favorites. Have you tried any of these? What were your favorite products during last month? Is there anything out there that I should try in September? Let me know in the comments below.

Beauty Favorites // AUGUST 2014

I'm kind of terrible at beginnings. How am I supposed to start this all? I have no clue, but here goes nothing.

My name is Amanda Ashley, and I'm kind of obsessed with makeup. Of course if you ask my friends and family that "kind of" will turn into "Is there a makeup rehab? She really needs that." Yes, the beauty industry is my passion and what I want to pursue in life. I figured as I start on this journey a blog would be the perfect type of place to start cataloging my thoughts on products, trends and whatever.

I will be starting school for this in November so I know I can catalog my journey there. Maybe it will help someone else thinking of going into this crazy world that is the beauty industry.

This won't be all beauty either. I have a lot of interests in this world, and I'm sure I'll share my thoughts on multitudes of things. I live around the very eclectic city of New Orleans so there is always lots to do and lots to see. Granted, I'm probably stuck behind my tv screen a lot - I have lots of shows that demand to be watched.

Anyway, this post probably doesn't make a lot of sense, but here we go on this journey. Come with me. I'll bake cookies.

So it begins...
